There is one common denominator to all traffic accidents: Speed.  Put simply, if nobody is moving, it is harder for accidents to occur.

A majority of road accidents are the result of increased speed. Eventually, as you accelerate, there will come a point where there is a loss of control of the vehicle.

Always ensure you:

  • Adhere to the speed limit
  • Maintain a position within your lane that allows for maximum visibility.
  • If in doubt about something or someone up ahead, slow down and prepare to stop.
  • Keep enough distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you to spot edge traps, potholes, or other road hazards in time to avoid them.
  • Slow down when being tailgated.  If anything unexpected happens, it could buy you enough time to keep from getting run over.
  • Ensure you are well protected with boots, jeans, gloves, helmet and eye protection as a minimum of protective gear, no matter how warm the weather.
  • Slow down in the wet.

Some scootering tips for beginners:

  • Avoid riding on sand. Sand quickly clogs filters and destroys bearings.
  • Do not ride on the footpath.
  • Don't go riding in sneakers, thongs, or bare feet.  Wear protective clothing on your body including your feet.
