There is one common denominator to all traffic accidents: Speed. Put simply, if nobody is moving, it is harder for accidents to occur.
A majority of road accidents are the result of increased speed. Eventually, as you accelerate, there will come a point where there is a loss of control of the vehicle.
Always ensure you:
Adhere to the speed limit
Maintain a position within your lane that allows for maximum visibility.
If in doubt about something or someone up ahead, slow down and prepare to stop.
Keep enough distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you to spot edge traps, potholes, or other road hazards in time to avoid them.
Slow down when being tailgated. If anything unexpected happens, it could buy you enough time to keep from getting run over.
Ensure you are well protected with boots, jeans, gloves, helmet and eye protection as a minimum of protective gear, no matter how warm the weather.
- Slow down in the wet.
Some scootering tips for beginners:
- Avoid riding on sand. Sand quickly clogs filters and destroys bearings.
- Do not ride on the footpath.
- Don't go riding in sneakers, thongs, or bare feet. Wear protective clothing on your body including your feet.
